As we approach Summer and the warmer weather people look forward to visiting York, it’s beautiful sights, and maybe sitting back in the sun with a cold drink watching the world go by. So we have rounded up some of the best beer gardens of York! All of which can be found right in the city centre!
The Fat Badger
One of our favourite beer gardens is the secret garden at The Fat Badger, hidden away at the back of the restaurant and accommodation, this beer garden is decorated in a beautiful way with lights and flame heaters for when the sun goes down. The garden also has amazing views of the Minster and sits next to a section of the famous York walls, it even has its own knights to keep watch!
Eagle and Child
Another great beer garden and sun trap is the one at the Eagle and Child also based High Petergate. The Leeds brewery pub was built in 1640, and is a beautiful grade II listed building. The high sided walls, floral displays, and sofa seating makes this a lovely chilled out place to be.
Spark: York
Spark in York is a funky place in the centre to drink, eat, and shop, with its decorated shipping container set up, and open top seating areas its truly a place everyone should try out. You can try food from across the globe from gourmet burgers to Asian style food, and a range of drinks such as craft beers, fine wines, and delicious cocktails.
The Red Lion
Just a stones throw from Spark:York is the lovely traditional pub The Red Lion. This wonderfully classic British pub offers a range of cask ales, draft beers, and gins, the beer garden has plenty of seating in its courtyard but also a raised area which is lit up when the sun goes down.
The Star Inn The City
Crossing charm, tradition, and a modern flair, The Star Inn sits in an idyllic position by the river, and the beautiful Museum Gardens in York. It has a large balcony outdoor seating area where you can sit and watch passers by, the river boats, and sometimes even the rowing teams from the local rowing club.
Judge’s Lodgings
This restored Georgian Townhouse has a lovely spacious outdoor seating to the front of the property where you can people watch whilst sipping on a cool drink, or you can head to the stylish rooftop and soak up the sun.
The Guy Fawkes Inn
Hidden away at the back of the historical home of Guy Fawkes lies a beer garden with a spectacular view of a mural of Guy Fawkes. Alongside the impressive art work, the garden is perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of York’s streets, and looks so very cosy when all lit up on a night.
The Habit
Another garden with an amazing view is the quaint rooftop seating area at the Habit which looks out onto the York Minster. The Habit maybe a little smaller then the rest of the pubs we have mentioned but it still packs a punch with its range of global drinks, relaxed atmosphere and regular live music events.
The few pubs and beer gardens we have mentioned are by no means all of the available outdoor areas available in York, just some of our favourite ones! The next time you are in York be sure to check some of them out, and if there is a beer garden you think we should have added to the list be sure to let us know.
